Hornets win big; advance

The Hancock County Hornets beat Ballard Memorial 55-14 Friday night to advance to the second round of the KHSAA Class 2A playoffs.

It was the fourth consecutive time the Hornets had scored more than 50 points in a single game.

They'll travel to Caldwell County this Friday.

After scoring more than 40 points in seven of their ten games this season, the Hancock County Hornets should be confident in their offensive ability.

The 8-2 Hornets will open the 2012 playoffs at home this Friday against 7-3 Ballard Memorial.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Hancock County beat Breckenridge County 57-13 last week.

Hancock County running back Justin Hamilton will be a tough guy to stop.  He's rushed for over 1,300 yards and 24 touchdowns so far this season.  He's also caught 19 passes and scored four TDs through the air.

Sophomore Beau Case scored four touchdowns and Hancock County jumped on Ohio County Friday night, beating the Eagles in Hawesville, 41-6.

Three of Case's touchdowns came on offense but he also intercepted a pass and returned it for a score.

Hancock County is now 1-1 on the year.  They host Muhlenberg County this Friday while Ohio County hosts Caldwell County.

Ohio County's 2011 season was a good one, but 2012 is off to a solid start too.

The Eagles beat Muhlenberg County 41-13 Friday night in front of the home crowd to kick off the season. 

They'll play at Hancock County this week.  The Hornets lost to Grayson County 34-22.

McLean County was beaten by Edmonson County 55-6.

The Ohio County Eagles advanced into the Class 5A football playoffs in 2011.  Now, a new season begins and interest is high as they prepare to open a new campaign.

They'll have a lot of road games  after next Friday night's opener against Muhlenberg County but finish the season with three straight at home.  Here's the complete 2012 football schedule:
