McLean County's Sydney Rice signs with Brescia

MCHS senior Sydney Rice has signed to play college basketball for Brescia University next year.

A second team all-region selection, the 5'6 guard, made her commitment in front of family and friends at the high school on Tuesday.

Eagles: "Hard work pays off"

They're Third Region champs and riding a ten-game winning streak.  Life couldn't get much better for the Ohio County Eagles.

Winning Saturday night at the Sportscenter meant fans would spend this week looking for tickets to Wednesday night's opening game against Graves County at Rupp Arena.

It's the first time Ohio County has been to the Sweet 16 in eight years.

Coaches say a tough schedule helped the Eagles prepare for a tough road in the post-season.  For the players, taking the court at Rupp will be something they won't soon forget.

Ohio County beats Owensboro Catholic to advance to state

Ohio County defeated Owensboro Catholic Saturday night 49-38 to win the 3rd Region Boys Basketball Tournament.   The Eagles will head to Rupp Arena this week for the Sweet 16.

They'll take on Graves County at 5:30 Central time Wednesday. 

Ohio County is now 25-7.

Eagles get another shot at OHS

Ohio County is one of just a few teams from the Kentucky side of the 14 News viewing area to still be playinig basketball as the calender turns to March.

The Eagles beat Grayson County 64-40 earlier this week to advance in the 3rd Region tournament.  Friday night, they'll tangle with the OHS Red Devils in a 7:45 tip-off at the Sportscenter.

The two teams met back on January 8 and OHS came away with a 75-58 win.

Ohio County is 23-7 on the season (14-3 in region play) while OHS is 19-10 overall and 11-3 in the region.

Darryl Strawberry to speak at Ohio County H.S.

Darryl Strawberry to speak at Ohio County H.S.

Former baseball star Darryl Strawberry is coming to Ohio County in a few weeks.  That's according to our media partner, the Cromwell Group.

Strawberry will share his life story at the high school on Friday, April 12.  He’ll be at Ohio County High School  for a talk that begins at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 5:30pm).  The presentation is called "The Power to Win:  From Hardship to Hope”.

Appearing in eight straight All-Star Games from 1984-91, Strawberry played a key role on the New York Mets’ 1986 World Series championship team.  He also helped the New York Yankees to championships in 1996 and ’98.

Ohio County wins District title in OT

After jumping out to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter, it looked loke Ohio County would cruise to an easy win in the 10th District Boys Basketball Tournament final Thursday night.

Not so fast.

Muhlenberg County stormed back to send the game into overtime, but in the end, the Eagles were able to nail down the tournament title with a 66-61 win.

Both teams advance to next week's Region Tournament at the Sportscenter in Owensboro. 

Ohio County is 22-7 while Muhlenberg County fell to 11-19.

Ohio Co. girls win District

Ohio Co. girls win District

It was no walk in the park, but the Ohio County girls basketball team has earned the title 'District Champs'.

The Lady Eagles held off Muhlenberg County Wednesday night, 70-67 to take the title.

Both teams will move on to the Region tournament next week at the Sportscenter in Owensboro.

On Thursday night, Hancock County will host the 11th District title game between the Lady Hornets and Meade County.
