2013 Free fishing weekend in Kentucky

 

June 1 and 2 will be Free Fishing Weekend in Kentucky.

State residents and nonresidents can fish any allowable inland water in the Bluegrass State that weekend without a fishing license.

Adults can fish free all weekend, and kids under 16 do not need a license to fish in Kentucky. 

Season dates, limits and all other fishing regulations must be followed during Free Fishing Weekend.   

Area athletes to compete in Special Olympics spring games

Area athletes to compete in Special Olympics spring games

 

The Special Olympics Kentucky Area 2 Spring Games will be held Saturday, April 27, at Apollo High School in Owensboro. The Area 2 meet includes more than 150 athletes from Daviess, Grayson, Henderson, Ohio, Union and Webster Counties. The Area Spring Games include both powerlifting and track and field. Powerlifting will get underway at 9:30 a.m. in the Apollo gym. The event’s official Opening Ceremonies, including the parade of athletes, will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the track. And the track and field competition begins at 1:15 p.m.

Park and Sports Complex progress continues in Beaver Dam

Officials in Beaver Dam say they're pleased with the continuing work and progress at the city's new park and sports complex.

It continues to draw a large number of visitors.

Officials say some new exercise equipment has arrived.

Baseball season also just kicked off last week at the new community fields. 

Residents also continue continue to take advantage of things like the walking trails and new playground.

Big event for archers in McLean Co. this weekend

 

Archery target maker Rinehart is holding one of its 18 annual target shoots in Calhoun this weekend.

Organizers say Rinehart will bring 100 life size “animals” (in target form), including some exotic ones—and even a dinosaur or two.

The event takes place at Myer Creek Archers with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. with shooting to end at 5 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 Sunday.

Cause a special one as Woman's Club holds 5K for MD

It turned out to be a cool, but spectacular day for the Livermore Woman's Club's 1st Annual 5K Run/Walk Supporting Muscular Dystrophy.

“The cause is close to our hearts as one of our own, Tessa Wilkerson, has a form of the Muscular Dystrophy disease,” said club president Ann Renfrow.  “She was diagnosed at ten months and just celebrated her 16th birthday this past month.”

The group raised more than its goal of $1,500 for MDA.

Union County wrestlers make their case at national event

 

A great showing by the Union County Wrestling Club at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals over the weekend.

Competing in Cedar Falls, IA,  Saul Ervin, Jayce Carr and Trae Blackwell all earned All-Amercian honors, with Blackwell becoming the 2nd National Champion in Union County history (the first being Caleb Ervin in 2009).

Blackwell won a bracket of 48 individual competitors and beat the number 7 ranked kid in the country on his way to a National Championship.

Ohio County baseball team at Cal Ripken Experience tournament in South Carolina

It's spring break for the Ohio County Eagles who are in Myrtle Beach, SC this week for the Cal Ripken Experience tournament.

Teams from several states are competing in the week-long event at the facility owned by Ripken Baseball.  Ohio County was scheduled to take on Elmwood, OH Monday, Elmira, NY Tuesday and teams from Ohio and Tennessee Wednesday and Thursday.
