OCHS graduation, party set

Ohio County High School will hold commencement ceremonies Saturday night.  A total of 261 seniors are in this year's graduating class.

OCHS is again holding 'Project Graduation', a fun event aimed at keeping post-graduation activities drug and alcohol free. The event will include food, games, music and prizes.

Hancock Co. sets meetings, timetable for hiring new elementary principal

Hancock County Public Schools would like to name a new elementary principal no later than May 17.

The South Hancock SBDM will conduct a special closed door meeting of the council on Monday, May 6 at 3:30 to review applicants.

Two more meetings will take place May 8 and 9.

12-year-old accused of threatening principal at OCMS

A 12-year-old Ohio County Middle School student has been charged with terroristic threatening in a case involving the school's principal.

According to our media partner, the Ohio County Times-News, the school's resource officer, the boy sent threatening text messages to principal Chester Hoover and claiming he had access to guns.

Stafford said the student's cell phone was taken into evidence.

The school is currently on spring break.

Special event for deaf and hard of hearing students, teachers

The eighth annual “Hands Alive” fair is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Yellow Creek Baptist Church’s community building. Teachers of the deaf and hard-of-hearing from across the region organized this event, with support from the Green River Regional Education Cooperative, Kentucky School for the Deaf, Owensboro Health and Owensboro Municipal Utilities.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades preschool through 12 will attend this event. The students are from across western Kentucky, including Daviess County, Owensboro, Warren County, McLean County, Barren County, Glasgow, Muhlenberg County and Webster County.

No school in Ohio County Wednesday

Ohio County Schools will be closed on Wednesday to allow students and staff to attend the Sweet 16.

Ohio County takes on Graves County in an opening round matchup at Rupp Arena.

Game time is 5:30 p.m. Central.

If the Eagles win, they'll play Friday afternoon at 1:30 against either Hopkinsville or South Oldham.

Wireless coming to Ohio Co. schools

Wireless coming to Ohio Co. schools

Ohio County Schools will be getting wireless technology.  Superintendent Scott Lewis told the Ohio County Times-News that wireless will cost $160,000.

Ohio County isn't yet able to provide students with electronic devices, the technology is aimed at keeping them from having to depend on wall connections tied to just one area of the building.  The installation is regarded as the first step toward future efforts to keep up with the times and equip students with the tools they need to learn in today's world.
