Adopt-a-Highway calendar contest underway

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced the beginning of the 2011 Adopt-a-Highway Poster Contest.  Students from across the Commonwealth are invited to submit creative works for use in the Adopt-a-Highway calendar for 2012. The contest is open to all Kentucky students of elementary, middle and high school age.

Exposure to the contest and to the Adopt-a-Highway program provides young people with a sense of ownership in Kentucky’s highways and stresses the importance of keeping Kentucky’s highways clean and free of litter.

Hancock Co. Fair opens

The Hancock County Fair opens Thursday for a four-day run at the fairgrounds on Highway 1389. 

The fair offers all of the traditional attractions and more.  The fair has won awards as one of the best county fairs in the Commonwealth.

It continues Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Rides open at 5 p.m.

Beech Grove post office targeted for possible closing

Beech Grove post office targeted for possible closing

U.S. Postal officials are looking into closing many offices across the country and the one sitting in the McLean County community of  Beech Grove made the list.

David Walton of the USPS says if the office does close, a village post office could set up in a local business or a central box unit could also sit in town.

Either way though, residents would have to either keep their same address and receive mail through Calhoun or set up a P.O.

McLean County residents will be paying a new county-wide library tax in the fall.

Two years ago, the county received a $350,000 federal grant to create a public library.
