Woman involved in Hancock County standoff charged with attempted murder | News
HANCOCK CO., KY (WFIE)-
A woman's arrested after a standoff in Hancock County.
Hancock County Sheriff Dale Bozarth says Marla Cooksey has been arrested and will be booked at the Breckenridge County Detention Center, because there isn't a jail in Hancock County.
The sheriff says dispatchers received a call around 11 Tuesday night about someone threatening to harm themselves at 1021 Morton Lane.
Once the deputy arrived, the sheriff's office says he was met at the door by a woman holding a shotgun.
After requesting backup and repositioning, the woman re-emerged, this time holding a handgun.
The sheriff says she fired about 7 or 8 shots but didn't actually hit anybody, just a couple cars and another apartment door.
After making contact with her on the phone, authorities were able to get her to come out and surrender.
Cooksey was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation and released. She was taken to the Breckenridge Co. Jail. Bond has not been set.
The Sheriff's Office says Cooksey has been charged with 1st Degree Assault On An Officer, Attempted Murder and 8 counts of Wanton Endangerment.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says they were assisted by Kentucky State Police and Lewisport Police.
We'll keep you posted.
