Ohio County music park a reality once again | News

OHIO CO, KY (WFIE)- A couple of weeks ago, we told you about a new music park coming to Ohio County.

Organizers say the plan was scrapped because of a contract dispute, but now they say the plan is back on track, and at a different location.

Susan Matthews has found a new place for the music park. It will now be at the Ohio County Public Park and Friday night's Friday The 13th showing is the first event.

Matthews thought her agreement to lease the old Ohio County Country Club with the intention to buy was a done deal.

"At the last minute, presented a contract that was totally different than what we had agreed to and in addition to that getting at the 11th hour didn't give us enough time to get liability insurance," she said. 

Matthews had to cancel the free music concert back in June.

"That was my biggest disappointment, having to cancel last minute because I don't like doing things like that, and I felt like I let the people of the county down," Matthews said.

This entrepreneur refused to give up.

"I never take no for an answer," she noted.

Now, Matthews has reached an agreement with the Ohio County Parks Department to reserve parts of the park for outdoor movies on Fridays and concerts on Saturdays.

"I feel like this is something that will be a huge benefit for our community and it's something that's needed. Parents need to know their kids are going to a safe place for entertainment."

County officials agree.

"A community cannot do anything without our partners. For sure, it'll add to tourism. Has a lot of multipurpose buildings. Many restroom buildings," said Judge Executive David Johnston.

"It's a win-win for the county, because you know, they're getting a portion of the proceeds. It's also drawing people into the park that may not be aware of what the park has to offer," Matthews said.

Saturday night, Matthews is hosting a free concert featuring the band Loose Wheel from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

If it rains, the movies and concerts will be moved to the community center located next to the courthouse in Hartford.
