Search for man break-in suspect continues | News
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a break-in at a McHenry home in which a gun shot was fired.
Our media partner, the Ohio County Times-News, says a man broke a window and entered a home owned by Joseph Smith on Taylor Mine Road Saturday night.
The owner wasn’t home but his brother, Dustin Smith, was awakened while sleeping on a couch.
Deputies say Dustin Smith told them he heard a noise and confronted the intruder, who swung the knife, then punched him.
Smith told investigators he then ran to a closet, picked up a rifle and fired at the white male, who escaped through the front door.
Detective Tim Hatfield says no blood was found at the scene and it’s believed the intruder wasn’t hit.
Smith told investigators some pills were taken from an upstairs bedroom.
