Ohio County Relay for Life, free dinner

 

The Ohio County Relay for Life is scheduled for June 14, beginning at 7 p.m. and going until 7 a.m. on the 15th at the Ohio County High School track.

The theme this year is MusicFest and there will be several local bands playing, along with other activities and lots of food being sold by the teams.

The spring Highway 54 Yard Sale starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.  The huge event stretches from Leitchfield to Owensboro.  

Watch 14 News Sunrise on Thursday from 4:30 to 7 a.m. Western Kentucky reporter Alyssa Hansen will appear during the broadcast, chatting with Charlie Mattingly about the sale and more.

Cash strapped Ohio County Senior Center hosts fundraising fish fry

Reduced funding and lower attendance has the Ohio County Senior Center in need of a financial boost and they're hoping an event on Monday can help--at least a little.

The Cent will hold a fish fry at 5 p.m. which will include fish, cole slaw and hush puppies.  You're welcome to bring side dishes or desserts.

"We've even lost our janitors and the ladies working at the center are having to take on those responsibilities," senior center employee Jean Cole told our media partner, the Ohio County Times-News.

Green River Area Development District is currently accepting applications from artisans, craftsmen, and food vendors for the 41st Annual GRADD Arts & Crafts Festival. An autumn tradition in the Tri-State, the festival will be held the weekend of October 5-6, 2013, at Henderson’s scenic Audubon State Park.

The fee for art/craft booths (15 feet by 15 feet) is $100, and concession spaces (also 15 feet by 15 feet) are $150 each. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all spaces are filled. There is no commission taken on sales. For art/craft vendors, only hand-crafted items may be displayed and sold (no mass-produced items).

Craft and Fashion Show in Hawesville

The Spring 2013 Craft & Fashion Show will take place on Saturday, March 23, from 8am-4pm at South Hancock Elementary School (8631 HWY 69, Hawesville).

The show will feature 40+ local handmade vendors as well as a few vendors of direct sales items.

There will also e a fashion show featuring local children modeling clothes at 11 a.m. that morning.

Admission is $1 for people 12 and up.

Special event for deaf and hard of hearing students, teachers

The eighth annual “Hands Alive” fair is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Yellow Creek Baptist Church’s community building. Teachers of the deaf and hard-of-hearing from across the region organized this event, with support from the Green River Regional Education Cooperative, Kentucky School for the Deaf, Owensboro Health and Owensboro Municipal Utilities.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades preschool through 12 will attend this event. The students are from across western Kentucky, including Daviess County, Owensboro, Warren County, McLean County, Barren County, Glasgow, Muhlenberg County and Webster County.

Hancock County Small Business Forum set for March 19

Aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to attend the Hancock County Small Business Forum on Tuesday, March 19.

This free event, sponsored by GRADD, the City of Hawesville and the Kentucky Small Business Development Center at Murray State University, will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the Hancock County Public Library (1210 Madison Street, Hawesville).

Attendees will obtain valuable tips on how to start up a small business. Experts will share advice on key topics, such as developing a business plan, securing funding, and creating a website.
